Nullah Leh: No flood risk this monsoon
Soban appealed to the residents not to dump waste, garbage and shopping bags in the nullah.
RAWALPINDI:
Rawalpindi Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has said there is no danger of flooding, particularly in Nullah Leh, this year because of special arrangements and preemptive measures taken this year. WASA Deputy Managing Director Akram Soban said the authority carried out dredging Nullah Leh before the arrival of monsoon. He said Leh was cleared of silt and solid waste, particularly in the low-lying areas. He said the nullah was further widened and deepened to prevent overflows in monsoon. He said Gawalmandi area was especially focused during the cleanliness drive as a huge amount of garbage and filth is thrown into the nullah in the heavily-populated locality. The flood season in Nullah Leh starts from June 15 and runs through August 31. City Saddar Road, Dhok Charagh Din, Pirwadhai, New Katarian and Dhok Naju were also declared flood-prone areas. WASA removed silt from the nullah in all these localities. Soban appealed to the residents not to dump waste, garbage and shopping bags in the nullah.
