Public care: DCs told to be more hands on

Siddiqui directed the K-Electric to redress the issue of non-payment

Press Release August 22, 2014

KARACHI:

When people stage protests, the deputy commissioners must come out of their offices and contact the relevant departments urgently to solve the existing electricity and water problems of the people, said commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Thursday.

He was speaking at the weekly meeting at his office, held to review the progress on all on-going projects. The deputy commissioners should play their part in providing relief to the Karachiites so that their confidence in the government and its organisations could be restored, he added.

Siddiqui directed the K-Electric to redress the issue of non-payment of bills as that is the main factor contributing to the worsening law and order situation of the city. The commissioner instructed his deputies to ensure police patrolling during the night to provide security to the engineers and labourers who work at the infrastructure development sites in different parts of the metropolis.

The meeting is organised every week to highlight and discuss the problems being faced by the project heads because any kind of excuse will not be accepted in case of delay in the projects' completion, said the commissioner.
