KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has urged the government to implement the SME policy approved by the parliament. Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver urged the planning ministry to take remedial measures for rapid and fast track promotion and development of the sector. He admitted that a suitable environment is necessary and must prevail in all industrial areas. Thaver said the government needed to promote alternative energy sources of energy and exempt them from duties and taxes. “The SMEs must be provided finance on subsidised rates for setting up energy generation systems of bio mass and solar energy panels,” said Thaver. “It is very important that banks are made comfortable in financing the SMEs and for this there is urgent need for credit guarantee. The banks also need to be educated in risk management and SME financing.”
