Threat averted: Bomb planted outside QWP leader’s house defused
Police say one kg of explosives used.

The bomb disposal unit (BDU) defused an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified militants near the residence of a Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader in Umarzai, Charsadda on Wednesday.
A police official said they were informed of a suspicious gas cylinder lying near the house of QWP leader Sher Bahadur Khan after which they rushed to the site and called in the BDU to decommission the explosive device.
Police said the militants had planted the remote-controlled IED inside the cylinder. They added around one kilogramme of explosives were used.
A case was registered against unidentified militants and further investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, a bomb was defused outside a house near Qazi pump in Hangu. BDU in charge Asadullah said the bomb was planted by unidentified militants outside the residence of Anwar Asghar. Asad added they were informed about the device, at around 6am, which weighed around a kilogramme.
Separately, Bannu police foiled a terror bid and defused a remote-controlled bomb planted along Jani Khel Road on Wednesday. A Miryan police official said locals informed the police about the device after which the BDU was called in.
