LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court Bar Association has called an all Pakistan lawyers’ representatives’ conference on August 21 to discuss the political situation.

LHCBA president Shafqat Mahmood Chohan announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. He said representatives from the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Pakistan Bar Council, the four provincial bar councils and bar associations of the country would be invited to attend the conference.

He said that they would chalk out a strategy for lawyers considering the current political scenario. He said they would announce a clear stance vis-à-vis petitions filed in higher courts pertaining to the political state of affairs. Chohan said the lawyers would resist any steps that could pave the way for martial law in the country.

He said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s decision to enter the Red Zone, Islamabad, with his party workers and occupy the parliament was unconstitutional and undemocratic and the legal fraternity could not endorse it.
