At least 14 people were killed and over 80 were injured in the deadly clashes between the police and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers.
The decision comes after an application was filed by the Minhajul Quran secretariat.
On Saturday, petitioner’s counsel Mansoorur Rehman Khan Afridi submitted a petition to the court that the Punjab government was hiding the joint investigation team’s report, alleging that the report was against the government.
Claiming that police fired directly at PAT supporters, Afridi challenged the government to present any police official injured during the clashes to substantiate the government’s claims that the police were fired upon first. He asserted that PAT workers did not fire at the police and only used tear gas.
The petitioner further claimed that Gullu Butt was seen smashing car windows on television but was not mentioned in the joint investigation team’s report.
However, District Public Prosecutor Malik Azhar said that PAT workers should record their statements before the joint investigation team, adding that they did not appear before the judicial tribunal despite repeated notices.
“It is mentioned in the order, in view of the above discussion the application in hand is hereby accepted and respondent (SHO) is directed to register the FIR on the application of the petitioner and then to proceed in accordance with law in the investigation,” said judge Raja Muhammad Ajmal Khan’s ruling.
Earlier, a one-man judicial commission formed to probe into the incident had also submitted its findings to the Lahore High Court wherein it held provincial departments responsible for the incident.
However, no single department was specifically held responsible by judicial commission. Action is yet to be taken against the responsible government departments.
Court did not order registration of FIR against PM: Rashid
Contrary to reports, Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid said on Saturday that the sessions court had not issued any order to the police to register FIR against prime minister or the Punjab chief minister in the Model Town case.
In a statement, the minister clarified that the court while disposing of Minhajul Quran application, asked the police to deal the matter as per law and procedure. He claimed that this decision of the court did not mean that it had ordered for registration of a case against anyone, he added.

DISPENSATION OF JUSTICE: It is learnt that the Hon ble High Court has upheld the decision of the Sessions court/Ex-officio justice of peace, Lahore by virtue of which criminal case was ordered to be registered against the prime minister etc. It is the high time, that prime minister and chief minister Punjab should immediately resign for dispensation of justice.
@ModiFied Its their internal matter we should not comment on such issues, which are directly or indirectly irrelevant to India.
@ModiFied:
What do you want the World to look, your way ? & do what ? this is our internal matter, why should they be bothered about. The Govt has brought this mess & they need to clean it....if murder charges can be filed on Gen M in Lal Masjid, why not on NS & SS ?
First of all this is never going to happen in Pakistan that an FIR is registered against in-office PM and CM Punjab and if FIR is registered against PM and CM Punjab then article 248 will be the biggest hindrance in the way of arrest PM and CM Punjab and if PM and Punjab CM are really innocent and sinless then voluntarily they have to resign and face the case in case of registration of FIR against them.....

pervaiz rasheed siad, court has not given orders of registering any case. if court hasn't, then y punjab govt is going to challenge the verdict in LHC???
Sharif brothers never learnt from the past.Keeping defense and foreign policy portfolio to himself . Following a capitulated policy to eastern neighbor with evident disapproval of military. Moving too quick without reciprocal gestures on commercial policy . Vacillating for ever on NWA while soldiers were being beheaded. Rehman Malik learned quickly so did Zardari what not to do. I suppose past may be prologue , but people forget and never learn any lesson. Too bad I was hoping institutions may become more important than families and dynasties. But looking at history we as Muslims have no tradition except kings. At times we called them Caliphs. Turks and Malaysians may be showing us where the road should lead. But in Pakistan for the next century nothing except religious, regional, ethnic intolerance, exploitation will occur. Pakistan will continue to look to others for subsidy and handouts, alas there is no free lunch. You will have to dance to tune of puppet masters foreign and local.
@imtiaz: Most Pakistanis did NOT vote for these people, for Heavens sake! These corrupt thugs came into power through massive rigging! How else do you think can a man like Qaim Ali Shah and his PPP with his Zero Performance be re-elected in Sindh? Now its time to stand up against these ppl and bring them to justice, or keep praying and crying forever!
Police is under state minister. Case should be filed against state home minister. Case against both CM and PM have contradiction. it should be either CM (if state is responsible) or PM (if center is responsible).
Who is going to maintain law and order? May be Qadri or il who thinks himself Obove the law. Puppet Masters are doing great. be careful ik tuq and others ,when you are no loner useful. You will be disposed off. Glimpses of 1978 ?
Enemies of Pakistan are inside Pakistan. Pakistanis are themselves are responsible for the destruction of country. They voted and chooses a government but soon they stand up against it. If they want to change the elected government, just they have to wait next election. Tahir Qadri and Imran Khan are agents for someone else. They are big fitnas and people should stand up against both of them and should reject their ideology and their hunger for PM chair.
@ModiFied: No one is interested in opinions of any Indian regarding Pakistan's internal matters! Nawaz sharif and his brother are declared murderers and corrupt politicians.
Nothing will come out of it, the order will be declared null and void by the High Courts aka 'Sharif courts'.
TuQ instructed his cult to attack the police , he hijacked Emirates airlines as refused to disembark (and is now blacklisted on Emirates) , he got his cult to critically injure policemen in Islamabad/ raealpinidi , he is inciting violence day in and day out...
And yet TuQ is scot-free and giving speeches in Isloo!! What sort of country is Pakistsn where the state is so week!?!! Would this be tolerated for a moment in Canada???
@ModiFied....Both PM and CM deserved to be behind bars because they are responsible for the killing of innocent men and women.
If Musharraf was responsible for Mugti's murder and Lal mosque's killings, so do Sharief brothers in this case.
@Imran Qadri - any one who does not believe him/her self as culprit will not go against this verdict to superior court. Therefore, any one who will appeal to stop it will mean is involved in this criminal act.
In any other civilized country, PM would have resigned by now. Alas we live in a country in which politicians are devoid of any morality
Now Shahbaz can resign in peace and a face saving move.
I cannot believe the power behind the forces trying to once again destabilize Pakistan. The unstable history of Pakistan has a very close resemblance to what IK and TuQ have until done. If anything happens, Pakistan goes back to square one, while the whole country - including the forgotten IDPs suffer.
"A sessions court has ordered that cases be registered against 22 people, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, over the June 17 Model Town clashes, Express News reported. "
Sad day for democracy in Pakistan if CM and PM are being pushed in a hole from all sides. So much is happening in Pakistan and word is looking other way.
Its a sessions court verdict, appeal should be filed against this verdict in superior court.
Let the game of throne begin.
