FAISALABAD:

Samundri police said on Friday they had arrested five people for beating a youth after accusing him of stealing a cell phone on August 12.

Muhammad Yasin, a resident Qasim Road in Samundri, had accused Riaz alias Kala Malik of stealing his mobile phone.

Yasin and some other villagers had caught Malik and beat him before handing him over to police. Malik denied the charge. He told police Yasin had beaten him to take revenge for an enmity.

“Yasin, Tariq, Sufiyan, Usman, Tauqir, Haji Ahmad, Amin and three unidentified men first beat me and then hanged me from a tree at their farm,” he told police.

City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik took notice of the incident and directed Samundri police to take action against the accused.

The Samundri station house officer said police had registered a case against 10 people and arrested five of them.
