Roadside blast: FC official dies in Quetta bombing
Another critically injured in attack on patrol vehicle on Saryab Road
QUETTA:
A Frontier Corps (FC) official was killed and another injured Thursday morning after their patrol vehicle was bombed in Saryab area of Quetta.
“An FC man has died while another is critically wounded,” senior police officer Imran Qureshi told The Express Tribune.
The FC vehicle was patrolling Saryab Road, known among locals as the ‘Gaza Strip’ due to the frequency of attacks here, when it was attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in the Sharifabad area of Saryab.
The vehicle was damaged in the explosion. More troops and police rushed to the spot after the blast and cordoned off the area. The deceased and the injured were transported to FC Hospital Quetta. The explosion was heard within a two kilometre-radius. The windows of nearby shops were shattered by the blast.
This is the third bombing in Quetta in two days. Earlier, two flag shops were bombed, leaving 22 injured.
Baloch separatists often target shops selling national flags and security forces in many parts of Balochistan and they intensify their attacks in the lead-up to Independence Day. There have been no claims of responsibility for the latest attack.
