Seeking dialogue: Jamaat chief updates Shahbaz on negotiations with PTI

Says some diehard PTI members still calling for PM’s resignation

LAHORE:
Jamat-e-Islami head Sirajul Haq called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and discussed the ongoing negotiations between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leadership through him.

Sirajul Haq met Imran Khan on Monday night at his residence at Zaman Park. After this meeting he called on Shahbaz Sharif with JI General Secretary Liaquat Baloch. The JI leader said the party is working on an amicable solution between all stakeholders. He added that the government should not stop Imran Khan’s long march and he should be given a free hand.

Sources said Shahbaz Sharif asked that Sirajul Haq’s suggestions with regards to a recount in 10 constituencies and even the formation of a Judicial Commission to probe alleged rigging in the general election. Haq reportedly informed Shahbaz that PTI’s leadership is surrounded by some diehard party members who are calling for Nawaz Sharif’s resignation.

Sources said Sirajul Haq made a commitment with Shahbaz Sharif that he would play his role on the day of the long march and would meet other opposition parties. Additionally, Sirajul Haq reportedly said that if the PML-N announces a judicial commission he would make arrangements for negotiating both sides to come to the table.
