KWSB, Pakistan Rangers ‘in the dark’

KESC disconnected the power supply of residential apartments, KWSB lodges, different wings of the Pakistan Rangers.

KARACHI:
The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) disconnected the power supply of residential apartments, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) lodges and different wings of the Pakistan Rangers on Monday.

These measures, as claimed by the KESC, were due to the failure of KWSB and Rangers personnel to pay their outstanding dues.

KESC spokesman Aamir Abbasi told The Express Tribune that these bulk electricity consumers had been defaulters to the utility for a long time, despite repeated reminders.

The KWSB has to clear outstanding dues worth Rs11.5 billion. They had issued a cheque to KESC - which bounced - and then they gave another cheque of Rs50 million. The KWSB has to pay Rs300 million every month for the power they use, but they had failed to offer any money during the last two and a half months.

Meanwhile, KESC also had to disconnect the power supply of Pakistan Rangers as they too had not paid their bills. Talking to The Express Tribune, the Rangers spokesman said that the paramilitary force would make some facts public on Wednesday by faxing the details to the press.

Meanwhile, Clifton, PECHS, Tariq Road and Landhi experienced intermittent power outages since 6 am on Tuesday.According to Abbasi, unidentified suspects had stolen high-voltage connecting leads and bus bars from KESC’s substations. The theft has caused damages to the utility, he said.
