Security dynamic: Afghan forces told to repulse incursions
Orders given after officials present a report on alleged cross-border attacks
ISLAMABAD:
Afghanistan’ National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday ordered the country’s security forces to suppress all incursions by Pakistan and its security forces on Afghan soil.
Outgoing President Hamid Karzai presided over the meeting of key ministers, top military generals and intelligence officials in Kabul and reviewed the movement of Pakistani forces along the Durand Line.
“The NSC instructed the country’s defence and security forces to make complete preparations to respond with full force and cut off any intervention by Pakistan and its forces,” a statement posted on the Karzai’s official website reads.
According to the statement, the instructions were given after the security officials presented a report on alleged cross-border incursions from the other side of the border.
The meeting focused on the detention of five Pakistani nationals who were coordinating a major Taliban offensive in Hesarak district of Nangarhar province.
The NSC meeting also reviewed the intelligence report regarding the coordinated attacks in numerous districts of Nangarhar province, the statement said.
The development comes days after Kabul summoned Pakistani ambassador over a series of “violations along the Durand Line.”
