Security situation: UHS test application deadline extended

Several students could not submit forms due to security situation.

LAHORE:

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has extended the last date for submission of applications for admissions to medical colleges in view of the security situation in the province.

A number of students could not submit applications on August 9, the last day, as the government had put barriers on major roads to keep Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers from arriving in Lahore to attend Youm-i-Shuhada observance called by the party.

“We have extended the last date for the submission of forms until August 16. However, forms will not be received on holidays on August 10 and August 14,” a spokesman for the UHS said.

The 150-minute test would start at 9am simultaneously in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Hasan Abdal.

A test centre in Sialkot has been added this year on the direction of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Candidates securing at least 60 per cent marks in FSc (pre-medical) or equivalent examinations and having domicile of a district of the Punjab, Islamabad, or Gilgit-Baltistan would be eligible to take the test.

The UHS vice chancellor had earlier said that there would be a single question paper consisting of 220 objective-type questions, divided into four sections: physics (44 questions), chemistry (58 questions), English (30 questions) and biology (88 questions).

There are 3,022 MBBS open-merit seats in 17 public medical colleges and 175 BDS open-merit seats in three government dental colleges.

Besides, there are nine seats reserved for candidates from Sindh, six for candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 26 for Balochistan, 49 for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 64 for Gilgit-Baltistan, 17 for FATA, 85 for foreign candidates paying regular fee, 76 for foreign and self-finance candidates, 20 for disabled candidates, 61 for candidates from six under-developed districts of the Punjab, one for Cholistan and one for Afghan refugees living in the Punjab.
