Energy sector: Turkmenistan offers support
A joint working group to prepare feasibility of energy projects.
ISLAMABAD:
Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov has said that his country is ready to provide electricity to Pakistan as Turkmenistan is rich in electricity generation through gas thermal plants.
During a meeting with Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif held in Islamabad, it was also decided that a joint working group would prepare the feasibility of projects.
Asif said that energy is the lifeline for the region and cooperation in this sector would strengthen geopolitical relations for both countries. He welcomed the extended support of Turkmenistan and expressed determination that Pakistan would pursue energy related projects on a fast track basis as the current power crisis was a major hindrance to the country’s growth prospects. The minister said that the proposal presented by Turkmenistan is doable and a dedicated transmission line can be installed to meet the energy needs.
