Another policeman shot dead in Hyderabad
The incident's FIR has not been lodged so far, said SHO Qamar.
HYDERABAD:
A gunman of the prison police, DIG Muzaffar Ali Siddiqi, was shot dead late on Thursday night in Hyderabad.
Farhan Baig, 30, was riding a motorcycle when he was ambushed by unknown assailants near Ayesha mosque in Latifabad unit 6. The incident took place near the DIG's residence, said B-Section SHO Malik Qamar. "He was shot in the head since his body was protected by a bullet-proof jacket." The attackers took away the policeman's automatic gun and his cellular phone. The police have yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder. Qamar said that though it is early to comment, he referred to the recent killings of the policemen in Hyderabad, particularly in Latifabad area, to say that this may also be another incident of the targeted killing.
Eleven policemen have been shot dead in Hyderabad since May in separate incidents. Baig, who was a resident of Latifabad unit 12, was laid to rest after his funeral prayer, which was offered in the Central Jail. The incident's FIR has not been lodged so far, said SHO Qamar.
