Rangers deployed in Lahore to ensure security till August 14
Police to register FIR against PAT workers who attacked cops in Lahore, says law minister
LAHORE:
Rangers were deployed in Lahore at the request of the Punjab government to ensure security in the provincial capital, Express News reported.
The government had asked the interior ministry to deploy Rangers in Lahore until August 14 and had also sent a letter to the ministry in this regard.
Five companies of Rangers will be posted at important buildings, including Governor House, during this time.
According to Express News correspondent Mian Aslam, the imposition of Article 245 was not required to deploy Rangers personnel in Lahore as they are not part of the army, but are a security organisation under the ministry of interior.
Meanwhile, three police officers were injured in a confrontation between policemen and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in Lahore that took place on Thursday night, Express News reported.
Referring to the clashes between dozens of policemen and hundreds of PAT supporters around the residence of Dr Tahirul Qadri, Provincial Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that it was the government's responsibility to ensure security in the country.
