Encroachments: Shopkeepers beat encroachment workers
They complained that they were not warned about the encroachment drive
SIALKOT:
Shopkeepers on Thursday beat workers of the cantonment board for removing encroachments in Sialkot. A police spokesman said cantonment board staff was led by sanitation inspector Khadim Hussain in Lorry Adda.
He said the operation against illegal encroachments started around 11 am. He said workers were instructed to remove boards, hoardings and stalls from the sides of pavements in the first phase.
He said some stall owners and shop keepers argued with the workers. He said soon the argument got violent and the shopkeepers beat the workers. A police team from Lorry Adda stopped the fight.
Sanitation Inspector Khadim Hussain told The Express Tribune that illegal encroachments would not be tolerated on the land of the cantonment board.
He said the shopkeepers had complained that they had been running their businesses at Lorry Adda for many years and the cantonment officers had decided to remove their shops without prior notice.
