PTI vs police: Opposition workers protest suspension of policemen
Threaten to continue protest if action not taken against brawling PTI workers.
SHERGARH:
Workers of opposition parties, including the Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Pakistan Peoples Party, among others, protested in Mardan on Sunday against the suspension of police officials after they fought with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers the previous day.
Hundreds of party workers blocked Malakand Road and demanded the restoration of the policemen. Speakers condemned the attack by PTI workers on Shergarh police station, which they claim took place in the presence of MNA Muhammad Ali Khan. They said three policemen were also injured in the incident, while PTI workers are feigning innocence.
The protesters demanded the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government take action against PTI workers over violation of the law. Such illegal raids on government schools, hospitals and police stations will not be tolerated, they added. Speakers said if SHO Khadamin and ASI Mushtaq were not restored within 48 hours, they would block the road for an indefinite time period.
The crowd dispersed peacefully after DSP Circle Sajad Khan arrived at the protest and thanked them for coming out in favour of the police.
Khan assured them that he would convey their message to his seniors.
It was learnt that an FIR has been lodged against MNA Muhammad Ali, PTI tehsil president Sadiq Hussain and several other workers at Shergarh police station.
