War of words :‘Imran in league with the Taliban’

Abid Sher Ali wants PTI chief tried for damaging country’s solidarity.

FAISALABAD:

State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Sunday said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan should be tried for hatching a conspiracy to sabotage the country’s integrity and solidarity in connivance with the Taliban.

“Imran Khan is in league with the Taliban who are trying to harm the Constitution, the democratic set-up and rule of law,” the minister told media persons. “He has tried to divide the nation by offering Eid prayers in Mardan a day before the rest of Pakistan… simply to please the Taliban.”

He said the Taliban and Imran Khan were on the same page. They wanted to weaken the country by turning it into a fascist state, he said.

Ali said that Khan was bent on derailing the democratic system but people would foil his nefarious designs him by boycotting his “so-called long march”. He said the government was committed to eradicating terrorism with help from the Pakistan Army. “The army is fighting terrorists while the PTI chief is working on the Taliban’s agenda,” the minister said.

“It is time to support the army that has been rendering sacrificing for the integrity and solidarity of the country. Creating chaos will only result in anarchy.”

He said the PTI should stop its politics of agitation and raise its concerns in the parliament. He said the government was willing to talk to all political parties.

Paying tribute

The minister laid floral wreaths on the graves of army and police officials at the Ghulam Muhammadabad graveyard on Sunday.

“Our forefathers sacrificed a lot during the Pakistan Movement and now the army is fighting to protect the country. We celebrate Independence Day to pay tribute to them,” the minister told media persons.

A police contingent also presented a tribute to the monuments of the fallen.

MNA Haji Akram Ansari, MPA Mian Tahir Jamil, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal and City Police Officer Suhail Habib Tajik were present on the occasion.

The minister said the Pakistan Army had rendered invaluable services in the war against terrorism. He said terrorism would soon be eliminated and Pakistan would become a peaceful, welfare state.

“The country is going through testing times and there is no room for political confrontation on national issues,” he said.

Ali said the purpose of arranging one-month Independence Day celebrations was to promote unity and national solidarity.

Mengal said special programmes were being arranged to express solidarity with the families of those who had sacrificed their lives for the country.
