Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui announced that the operation against profiteers had been successful in Ramazan, and the process of charging fines and sending the profiteers jail was carried out throughout the month. According to Siddiqui, 6,140 shopkeepers were fined and 257 were sent to jail during Ramazan for selling commodities above government rates and hoarding. Siddiqui said this while addressing a meeting at his office. Karachi II additional commissioner and price committee chairperson Haji Ahmed, and commissioner office complaint cell in-charge Syed Zahid Hussain were also present at the meeting. During the crackdown, 1,275 milkmen, 386 shopkeepers of general commodities, 879 chicken sellers, 42 meat sellers, 1,810 vegetable sellers, 89 flour sellers and 1,649 fruit sellers were fined.
