Word of advice: Khursheed Shah warns PM against going solo
Mounts blistering attack on interior minister; says PTI should be allowed to organise August 14 rally
SUKKUR:
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah took a swipe at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s senior cabinet colleague Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Thursday, saying that as long as the PM has friends like Nisar, he wouldn’t need any enemies.
Nisar earlier made scathing remarks against political parties who had criticised the government’s decision to call in the army to the federal capital.
"I do not know what Nisar was expecting when he used such language for the opposition," Shah told a news conference in Sukkur on the first day of Eid.
The interior minister was possibly trying to create misunderstanding between the government and the opposition.
The opposition leader claimed that he would take up the key debates surrounding Article 245 in the assembly.
He also accused Nisar of attempting to politicise institutions and using them as a tool against political groupings.
"I have advised the PM not to go solo and instead take all political parties on board so that democracy could flourish," he said.
PTI rally
Speaking about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's plans to organise a rally on August 14, Shah said that if Imran Khan and his party want to stage a protest, they should not be stopped from doing so as everybody has the right to protest in a democracy.
Gaza assault
Expressing anxiety over the atrocities being inflicted on the Palestinians, Shah said that he would have led a spirited campaign if he was in government. He lamented that all Muslim countries were tight-lipped about the issue.
"There was a time when Pakistan would take a strong stand against such atrocities but now it is merely playing the role of a silent spectator."
