Water drainage: Monsoon exposes Pindi admins’ tall claims
The drainage system, especially in low-lying areas, has been choked, and several roads have turned into ponds of water
RAWALPINDI:
The ongoing spell of moonsoon rains has exposed all the tall claims made earlier by the departments concerned of the Tehsil Municipal Authority (TMA), as well as by the Cantonment and Chaklala boards about sanitation and drainage of rainwater.
Before the onset of rains, the authorities concerned had claimed that all streams and drains of the city had been cleared of silt and solid waste and there was no danger of flooding during the current monsoon season. But, the rains have exposed their claims as several areas of the city have been inundated since the current spell has started.
The drainage system, especially in low-lying areas, has been choked, and several roads have turned into ponds of water.
Monsoon downpour has become a problem in various areas such as Tench Bhatta, People’s Colony, Ghausia Intersection, Jan Colony, Sher Zaman Colony, Misriyaal Road, PIA Colony, Habib Colony, Gwalmandi, Daryaabad, Mareer intersection, Mareer bridge, Dhowk Chiragh Deen, Afshan Colony, Nadeem Colony, Javed Colony, Chamanzar Colony, Arya Mohallah, Sadiqabad, Rahimabad, Ratta Amral, Dhoke Najju, Jamia Masjid Road, Bohar Bazaar, Banni Chowk, Rehmatabad, Akhtarabad, Amarpura, Dhoke Elahi Bakhsh, Kohati Bazaar and Ziaul Haq Colony.
The residents face great difficulty because rainwater has inundated streets and at times gush into their houses due to poor arrangements made by the Sanitation Department of the Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards and the Tehsil Municipal Authority.
The residents complained that after rains, roads and streets remain inundated for several days creating inconvenience for them.
Rainwater has made life miserable particularly for residents of low-lying areas, whereas power outages were also reported in different parts of the city.
