BAHAWALPUR:

Bahawalpur Commissioner Captain (retd) Javed Akbar on Saturday constituted a special committee to investigate reports of negligence in the completion of development projects in Cholistan.

Akbar has directed the committee to take stern action against any official found neglecting his duty.

The commissioner issued the orders while addressing a meeting on the Cholistan Developmental Package.

He said the projects must be completed in a transparent manner. “It is a challenge for us to complete the projects according to the schedule.

The government funds should be used properly,” Akbar said. He directed the building departments to coordinate their efforts.

He said that the highway department would construct a road in the area at a coast of Rs300 million. The official said smaller roads would be constructed by the district government.

“The officials need to be in the field to monitor the developmental work, rather than just do paperwork,” he said. “Officials found negligent and incompetent will not be tolerated,” the official said. He said the government had taken a great interest in provision of basic facilities to residents of Cholistan. He said it was important for officials to remain dedicated to their work. “No complaint of any citizen should be turned down or ignored,” he said.
