Margalla Avenue: Construction work to resume after Eid

CDA chief says road will link C and D sectors of the capital with GT Road.

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will resume construction work on the Margalla Avenue project after Eidul Fitr, informed CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal at a meeting on Saturday.

Afzal said the authority has resolved all issues that were hindering work on the road, which will link the C and D sectors of the city with Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

He directed the Margalla Avenue project director to complete the remaining construction work at the earliest.

The chairman said the completion of the road is a priority as it will provide easy access to new sectors such as C-13, C-14, C-15, C-16 and D-12 from the GT Road and Motorway.

He said the avenue will be extended and connected to other major roads in the city in the near future as well. “CDA will utilise all available resources for early completion of the project, which will also reduce the traffic on other roads,” he said.

Civic authority high-ups briefed the chairman that the project was launched to provide an easy access to commuters coming from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Motorway and other cities to Islamabad.

CDA officials claim that despite hurdles, 53 per cent work on the project has been completed, adding the remaining work will be completed within a few months.

Total cost of the 8.5 kilometre road is Rs588 million and the dual carriageway will have two lanes of 12 feet each on both sides with a 20 foot median.
