Moving steadily : CM given more time to file Minhaj operation affidavit
ISI officer presents analysis of govt, police phone records.
LAHORE:
The Model Town inquiry tribunal on Friday gave Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif additional time to file his affidavit on the June 17 police operation against the Minhajul Quran International Secretariat in Model Town.
Punjab Advocate General Hanif Khatana appeared before the tribunal and sought additional time to submit an affidavit on the behalf of the chief minister. The tribunal allowed the request and asked the law officer to submit the affidavit on the next hearing - July 26 (today).
During the in-camera proceedings on Thursday, the judicial tribunal examined former law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, the chief minister’s former principal secretary Dr Tauqir Shah and several police officers.
DSP Mir Kashif Khalil, Gulberg SHO Inspector Zulfiqar Ali, Kahna SHO Inspector Muhammad Ishtiaq and DSP Rana Mohammad Islam were among the officers examined by the tribunal on Friday. Mian Javed Iqbal, son of Mian Ahmad, who was an eyewitness to the incident and a resident of the area also recorded his statement.
ISI Deputy Director Asad Ali Khan submitted an analysis report of eight cell phone numbers used by political and administrative authorities on the day of the police operation.
The judicial tribunal added the report to the tribunal’s records and directed the officer to submit a final report on the next hearing.
A report on the behalf of Federal Establishment Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif narrating the facts and circumstances due to which the government ordered the transfer of the Punjab Police inspector general was also presented in court.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, heading the judicial tribunal, then adjourned proceedings till July 26 (today).
