Power crisis: Shahbaz presides over energy group meeting

The chief minister said Pakistan faced a serious energy crisis which had affected every sector.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday chaired a meeting held to review progress on various power projects.


Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Railways Saad Rafique and State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali were also present.

The chief minister said Pakistan faced a serious energy crisis which had affected every sector.

He said early completion of energy projects must ensured.


He said the government was taking measures to resolve the energy crisis and was cooperating with the government of China in this regard.

Sharif said plans had been made to set up small coal-based power projects in the Punjab.

Rafique told the meeting that the railway system was being upgraded to supply coal from Karachi port.

Chinese delegation calls

A delegation of a Chinese company in energy sector, led by its President Guo Yu, met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Matters regarding energy projects especially coal power plants were discussed in the meeting. The chief minister said that work had been started with the cooperation of China on low-cost power generation projects.
