KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has extended the working hours of the subordinate judiciary in the city by five hours for two days so that important and urgent cases may be disposed of before Eid.

SHC registrar Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui issued an official circular on Friday, directing all the district courts in the city to work till 6pm on July 25 and July 26.

In the circular, the district judges have been ordered to hear and decide the urgent bail applications besides other important cases during the two days.

Ahead of Eid, a large number of under-trial prisoners have approached the courts to seek release so that they may be able to celebrate Eid with their families. However, decisions on their applications remain pending as it becomes difficult for the judges to entertain all the cases during normal working hours.

Meanwhile, the SHC has announced Eid holidays from July 28 to August 1.
