The operators of inter-city bus services have withdrawn the proposal to increase fares on the eve of Eidul Fitr, after the Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui intervened.
The commissioner had received complaints regarding the fare hike and called an emergency meeting at his office to inquire into the matter. Traffic DIG Sain Rakhio Meerani, district North deputy commissioner Mustafa Jamal Qazi, regional transport authority (RTA) secretary, public transport authority (PTA) secretary the owners of inter-city bus services attended the meeting.
Siddiqui directed the bus service owners to withdraw the proposed hike in fares, which they acceded on the spot. A vigilance committee comprising the RTA and PTA secretaries was formed in the meeting to ensure that the decision was implemented. Sindh Air-conditioned Bus Owners Association president Malik Muhammed Riaz Awan and its secretary, Haji Abdul Rauf Khan, will represent bus owners in the committee.
