New infrastructure: Khushal Garh bridge completed after three-year wait
Flyover will also help link up the Potohar region with Karachi via Indus Highway.
KHUSHAL GARH:
After three years, the bridge over Indus River at Khushal Garh has been completed. Expected to connect the trade and business communities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts with Islamabad, the flyover will also help link up the Potohar region with Karachi via Indus Highway.
K-P Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi inaugurated the newly-constructed bridge at Khushal Garh, 55 kilometres away from Kohat, on Thursday. Minister for Textile and Industries Abbas Afridi, Minister of State for Communication Abdul Hakim Baloch, Secretary Communication Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad and National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarrar attended the ceremony.
The bridge has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs1.538 billion. Its foundation was laid down on October 2, 2011 by former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani. The MOL Company invested Rs700 million along with the government.
In addition to the 373-metre-long bridge, a 146-kilometre-long highway was also improved as part of the project. Officials say 38km of the road lies in K-P while the rest is in Punjab.
“It (the bridge) will be a milestone in the economic sector of this region.” said Abbasi at the ceremony. He also appreciated the role of the National Highway Authority in the completion of the project. He assured that the 146-km-long highway will be made a duel carriageway and directed the NHA to complete the feasibility report soon.
