End the slaughter: JI to hold nationwide demonstrations against Israel on Friday
Says Palestinian women, children and elderly are being massacred.
PESHAWAR:
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will express solidarity with the people of Gaza by observing Yaum-e-Azm on Friday, the party ameer, Sirajul Haq announced on Tuesday. The party plans to hold demonstrations against Israel in major cities throughout Pakistan on the day.
Addressing Al-Khidmat Foundation’s wheelchair distribution ceremony at the Peshawar Press Club, Haq said JI has written to international leaders and Islamic organisations, asking them to raise their voice against atrocities in Gaza. He said Israel has been massacring women and children as well as the elderly.
Haq added that the Muslim world has been acting like a silent spectator even though Palestinians were looking to it for help. He urged Arab countries to end their silence, use oil as their weapon, and withdraw money from US banks.
The JI ameer went on to accuse the United Nations of failure in its basic duty as an international peacekeeper and criticised the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) for not calling a session to discuss the matter.
Responding to a question about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s D-Chowk rally on August 14, Siraj said protesting is the constitutional right of JI’s coalition partner and no one should have a problem about it. “Hurdles should not be created,” he said.
However, Haq added JI will not be part of the long march.
Later, Haq distributed wheelchairs. JI’s provincial vice ameer Muhammad Iqbal Khalil and Al-Khidmat Foundation’s provincial president Khalid Waqas Chamkani also spoke on the occasion.
