LHC suspends termination of 19 teachers of Aitchison College
Petitioners say they were directly removed by the principal, who has been asked by the court to submit a response.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended on Tuesday the termination of 19 teachers of Aitchison College, and sought a reply from the college’s principal in this regard.
Teachers, including Adeel Akhtar and others, challenged their termination submitting that the principal had no authority to terminate them.
The petitioners argued that the Board of Governors of Aitchison College had the authority to issue such orders, but they were removed directly by the principal without being provided any opportunity of defence. They asked the court to quash their termination for being unlawful.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza issued an interim stay order against the termination, and suspended the impugned notification till next the hearing.
The judge directed the college principal to submit his reply on, or before, August 28.
