Lahore High Court on Monday sought replies from the federal government on a petition against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches in the parliament.
Justice Shehzada Mazhar issued the order on a petition moved by Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice.
AK Dogar, counsel for the petitioner, said Khan was delivering offensive speeches in violation of democratic norms and the Constitution.
He said Khan’s speeches could cause political unrest that could that could lead to derailing of democracy.
He said it was the responsibility of parliamentarians to follow assembly rules but Khan had not paid heed to rules and regulations.
He said Khan had also announced a protest march on August 14 and was inciting violence.
Dogar requested the court to stop Khan from making inflammatory speeches and direct the government to negotiate with him.
