Independence Day: CDA plans flurry of activities to befittingly observe the day
Islamabad Highway to be renamed Pakistan Highway.
ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will join hands with the federal government to observe Independence Day with a flurry of activities to highlight the “national spirit”, a CDA spokesperson said.
Renaming of Islamabad Expressway
Though it is yet to be decided when work on the expanded Islamabad Expressway will start, managers of the civic agency have decided to rename it as Pakistan Highway on August 14, said the spokesperson, adding the road will be renamed after obtaining permission from the agency’s controlling division.
The road is one of the main highways of Islamabad and connects the federal capital with Rawalpindi and GT Road.
The federal government has a plan to convert the existing highway into a 10-lane signal-free road from Zero Point to Rawat.
Inauguration of tallest flagpole
According to CDA officials, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate South Asia’s “tallest flagpole” on Islamabad Expressway on August 14.
CDA has already started work on the project. The installation of the flagpole will be part of CDA’s “Flag Monument Park” which includes the establishment of a history museum, a library and other similar facilities. The proposed flagpole will be approximately 220-feet (60.96 metres) high.
The idea for the park was reportedly conceived by the prime minister himself after he was inspired by the National Flag Theme Park in India during his visit to New Delhi in May, said the officials.
