Iftar fight: Cases registered against PTI workers

PTI leader Mirza Shumail was also injured when someone threw a jug at his head.

BAHAWALPUR: Police on Saturday registered cases against 50 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for rioting and firing at an iftar dinner held for PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi. PTI Punjab Executive Committee member Chaudhry Jahanzaib had hosted an iftar dinner on Thursday night at his house on the occassion of Qureshi’s visit to Rahim Yar Khan.

During the dinner, two groups of guests got into an argument and some party of the party workers fired shots in the air. PTI leader Mirza Shumail was also injured when someone threw a jug at his head.

Rahim Yar Khan Saddar police registered cases against 18 named and 32 unidentified people on charges of attempted murder and assault on the complaint of Sub Inspector Muhammad Idrees.

The FIR has been sealed. The police conducted raids and rounded up several people. Shumail told newsmen at a hospital that he had cut his forehead and broken his nose. Shumail said he was beaten by over a dozen people and his brother had shot warning shots in the air so they would disperse.
