National IT board: Merger of two e-govt entities approved
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says new organisation will enhance quality and efficiency of public services.
ISLAMABAD:
The Cabinet Committee on Restructuring approved the merger of Pakistan Computer Bureau (PCB) and Electronic Government Directorate (EGD). The committee was informed that majority of the e-government projects, executed by both the entities in the past, failed to achieve their objectives due to incompetency and inefficiency of the leadership and ill-conceived projects.

Chairing a meeting at the prime minister’s office, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the new organisation, National IT Board, formed by the merger of the two departments, will enhance the quality and efficiency of public services.
The EGD since its inception in 2002 has undertaken 49 projects of Rs2,599.421 million but barring a few, most projects have not achieved the desired results. An internal audit of 13 projects last year exposed financial and administrative irregularities.
