Education for all: Literacy projects announced for DG Khan, Rajanpur

The project aims to target more <br /> than 5,000 children and adults

LAHORE:
The Literacy and Non Formal Basic Education Department (L&NFBE), under directives of the chief minister, is set to launch special literacy programmes that aim to target more than 5,000 adults and children in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan districts.

The project Mera Ghar Mera School (My home, my school) was unveiled at a briefing held by the department on Friday. Special Adviser to Chief Minister on Literacy Rai Haider Ali Khan chaired the meeting. He said the project aimed to educate as many as 5,450 children and adults through a literacy programme this year. The project will focus on creating community learning centres and non-formal basic education schools.


L&NFBE Deputy Secretary Kareem Bakhsh said that the project would offer education to 2,450 out of school children and 3,000 men and women. He said 70 non-formal basic education schools and 120 community learning centres will be set up in the two districts.

The secretary said the project could take up to 48 months to be completed and would cost around Rs60 million. He said in order to implement the project effectively the department had decided to take the non-government sector on board. A literacy awareness campaign will also be carried out by the department under the same programme.
