Fakebooking on the rise
LAHORE:
Fans of Pakistan’s famous singers, artists and models are being increasingly fooled by fake accounts of the celebrities on Facebook.
Several people have resorted to making fake accounts in the name of celebrities – not just Pakistani but also from Hollywood and Bollywood. Among the most famous fake accounts from Pakistan are those of Reema, Meera, Sana, Salma Agha, Zeba Bakhtiar, Resham, Abrarul Huq, Sara Raza Khan, Mishi Khan, Mehreen Syed, Fiza Ali, Adnan Saddiqui, Kashif Mehmood, Jawad Ahmed, Shehzad Roy, Naheed Shabir and Shafqat Amanat Ali.
Several ‘cheated’ fans have talked about how disappointed they were when they found out that they had been duped. Reema, Sana, and Fiza Ali told Express that there was no denying that Facebook had become a great way to get in touch with their fans.
However, they also said that fake accounts that people made in their names also created problems. “People are easily cheated because the fake account holders create photo galleries by taking our photographs from the internet and newspapers,” said Sana. “On several occasions our fans talk about fulfilling the promises we made online. We can do nothing but stare at them in amazement because we did not make those commitments,” she said.
