Going into specifics: Cell phone numbers of CM, 17 others handed to tribunal

ISI deputy director tasked to analyse June 16-17 phone data.

The Joint Investigation Team probing the police operation in Model Town on Monday presented details of cell phones numbers used by the Punjab chief minister, former law minister and 16 other officials before the judicial tribunal.


The tribunal then handed over the list of the cell phone numbers to ISI Deputy Director Asad Ali Khan for analysis. Important telephone data from June 16 and 17 will also be requisitioned from relevant cell phone companies. The companies have been directed to submit the data to the tribunal on July 16, the next date of the hearing.

The JIT presented these details on orders of the tribunal. DSP Saiful Murtaza, a member of the JIT, submitted the record and the JIT’s progress report on the incident.

He told the tribunal that he would deliver the data of the remaining cell phone numbers whenever he received them.

At the previous proceeding, the judicial tribunal comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi had ordered the JIT to provide him records of telephonic conversations on July 16 and July 17 between the chief minister, former law minister Rana Sanaullah, former principal secretary to CM Dr Toqeer Hussain Shah, the Punjab home secretary, the Lahore division commissioner, the capital city police officer, Lahore DCO, former operations DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar, Model Town Operations SP Tariq Aziz, Lahore Headquarters SP Maroof Safdar Wahla, Saddar Operations SP Malik Awais, CIA SP Umar Virk, Iqbal Town Operations SP Farrukh Raza, Model Town Investigations SP Muhammad Nadeem, Flying Squad SP Agha Muhammad Ramazan, Mujahid Squad SP Abdul Rehman Sherazi, and Lahore Security SP Salman Khan.

Additional Inspector General Altaf Hussain had placed a report of SOPs of communication between the police during police operations on record.

A district and sessions judge presented a report and the statements of four Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers injured in the incident. The tribunal had appointed the judge as a local commission to record statements of the injured persons under treatment at the Jinnah Hospital.

Lahore Special Branch SSP Muhammad Waqar Abbasi submitted two CDs containing video footage made during the operation. IB Admin Director Masroor Alam and IB Lahore Director Sajid Bilal appeared before the tribunal and placed a report of the incident on record. ISI Deputy Director Asad Ali Khan appeared on behalf of the director and placed on record a report and two CDs on the incident.

The tribunal adjourned further proceedings till July 16. The Lahore High Court media cell issued a press release after the proceedings saying that since lawyers were observing a strike in solidarity with Palestinian people, therefore, chamber proceedings were conducted by the tribunal on Monday.
