Eid preparations: KMC starts charged parking at 20 locations to 'ease' traffic
KMC officials have requested the general public and vehicle owners to cooperate with the KMC officials.
KARACHI:
In order to develop traffic discipline and convenience for the commuters and traders in Old City area and MA Jinnah Road, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), with the coordination of Karachi administration, has started charged parking at 20 different locations. The initiative will be implemented from July 14.
This is in accordance with the decision taken during the meeting held on July 12 chaired by commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui. These locations include Hasrat Mohani Road, Talpur Road, Mumtaz Hassan Road, Old Queens Road, Wallace Road, Captain Rafiqui Shaheed Road, Dunooly Road, MA Jinnah Road (from Jamia Cloth Market to Tower), Aram Bagh Road, Altaf Hussain Road, New Neham Road, Aiwan-e-Tijarat Road, Beamount Road, PIDC, State Life Building Road, PIDC, Sharae Iraq (from Passport Office to Paradise Hotel and vice versa), Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road (Spencer Building/Schon Centre to National Museum), Sindh Muslim Law College Road, Muhammad bin Qasim Road, Sindh Secretariat roundabout and Campbell Street.
KMC officials have requested the general public and vehicle owners to cooperate with the KMC officials in the recovery of charged parking fee to develop traffic discipline. The meeting
According to a statement issued on Sunday, a meeting held at the commissioner's office on July 12 concluded that special measures need to be taken to control the flow of traffic around shopping centres. Karachi Tajir Ittehad chairperson Atiq Mir, representatives of all shopping centres and markets associations, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, traffic police officials, directors of anti-encroachment staffs and charged parking department attended the meeting.
Siddiqui said that important steps are being taken with proper planning to improve the flow of traffic in the city, adding that officials and traders will collaborate to control the traffic flow and improve the parking system to prevent traffic congestion in markets. He directed all the deputy commissioners to play their part.
