BANNU:

The medical superintendent of Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital has been suspended by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai for his “negligence and incompetence”.

The minister said the government would not tolerate disregard for duty and warned that careless officials would not be transferred, but terminated. He added that doctors found to be running private clinics during official duty hours would also be terminated and their licences cancelled.

Addressing a meeting of senior officials at the commissioner’s office in Bannu on Friday, Tarakai said the government was utilising all its resources to provide better healthcare for those affected by the ongoing military operation.

Commissioner Bannu Syed Mohsin Shah, IDPs Camp Commander Brigadier Mukhtiar, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ayaz and other health officials attended the meeting.

The minister asked hospital administrations to inform him about problems faced by them, saying he would not allow any excuses later. Tarakai said senior doctors had arrived in Bannu and were treating displaced people free of cost.
