RAWALPINDI: A post graduate trainee doctor was found dead on Saturday in his hostel room of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

Police and hospital administration claimed that Qazi Waqas Ahmed, a third year student, committed suicide.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Bashir Malik spokesman for the hospital said that the case appeared to be a suicide incident as a disposable syringe was found lying beside the body.

According to the deceased’s peers, Ahmed had a friendly disposition and seemed normal in his daily activities.

However one friend, requesting anonymity, said that Ahmed had been upset for the past week but refused to share the reason.

Ahmed was reportedly ‘fine’ when he went to his room at night and his friends thought he must have overslept therefore never checked on him in the morning. The hostel administration finally broke into his room in the afternoon to find him dead.

Amanullah Khan a Sub-Inspector of Waris Khan police station, who is also the inquiry officer, said that it seemed like Ahmed injected himself with an excessive dose of anesthetic to take his own life.

He said that there were no other symptoms on his body that could suggest murder.

Contrary to the statement
of residents, Khan said that the door of the young doctor was not closed when he was found dead.

He said that the deceased was from Talagang and working in the Out Patient Department of the surgical ward of the BBH. He added that the investigation was underway and a case was registered under section 174.

He further said that the post mortem report would ascertain the cause of death.
