KARACHI: A six member committee will be formed to address the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) reservations regarding the on going operation in Karachi.

The decision to form the committee was taken during a telephonic conversation between MQM chief Altaf Hussain and Karachi Corps Commander Lt General Sajjad Ghani late on Friday.

The committee would be comprised of three representatives from the MQM  and three officials of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) taking part in the Karachi operation.

Earlier, the MQM chief had announced that he would write an open letter to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif over alleged atrocities committed against MQM workers by LEAs during the ongoing operation in the city.

Altaf had said he would write a letter to General Sharif to raise the issues of arrests, torture, abductions and extra-judicial killings of MQM party workers at the hands of law enforcement agencies.

He added that he is writing the first letter to the army chief and that he would keep updating him in subsequent open letters.

Napier Mole | 9 years ago | Reply @ Uzma @ Mohammad Ali There is no question that mqm was popular and is still popular with a large section of Karachi's population and again mqm may be true that it may have saved Karachi from the wolves (of sectarianism, among others) but the tragedy that I referred to was that it had been unable to transform this massive street power into structural and instituation gains for the urban population of Sindh. They have repeatedly frittered away this mandate on insignificant, ad hoc or inconsequential demands and issues. Mustafa Kamal's time was great but I would like to know what institutional changes were brought into KMC or Karachi's admininstrative structure during that period which would have been unroll-back-able. mqm even almost asked the city to be closed off in support of TUQ but I wonder if they ever thought of a well coordinated action and plan of peaceful protest to demand the restoration of the abrogated local government ordinance. Why has that issue died an unmourned death. It is a pity that PTI lost a chance by failing to raise this demand sincerely for Karachi - otherwise, mqm may have lost a major percentage of its middle class support base. As I mentioned above, it is only the lack of an alternative - and credible - voice which is saving mqm at the polling booths. mqm need to become a voice of hope, of reason, of tangible objectives once again. it needs a 'manzil' as much as it needs a 'rahnuma'.

Dear All Those who have commented on MQM have no experience except listening one story from another. Pls feel free to go interiors of Sindh Punjab Balochistan & KPK then you will realize what's the ground reality. Agree that all r not Angrls & there can be negative folks also & the worst part is that we all r indulged in Racism & Hatred. Be plausible what PPP is doing to the city nobody is least bothered. When MQM was given chance in 2002-2008 in shape of Parliamentary structure they proved & in 2005-10 when Mustafa Kamal along with Town Mayors did for Karachi & simultaneously Kanwar Naveed Hyderabad is commendable. Those who appreciating Rangers attitude is not fair as it's all one sided. Godforbid may your house be seen by Talibans & Gang war criminals 0r what Anp did to the city. Rangers torturing their workers in the ethnicity & there r cases of Sudomy & rod insertions in rectums. May you don't see that. Feel pain rather blind folded stories. Only liberal voice of Pakistan who dare to stand against Talibans & other fabric forces. Not all r criminals but yes may be few there but these all r isolated cases in the name of party. Middle class phenomenon, well educated, no fake degrees, no political feefdom, no policy all dynasties & most vocals on any issue In Pakistan, if this is the case then MQM really is a bad party for all
