Academic matters: Quality teaching essential for progress says UAF VC

University of Agriculture Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Friday that effective teaching was essential for progress in society. Khan was addressing teachers from the faculties of agriculture and social sciences.

He said that contemporary teaching methods needed to be introduced keeping with international standards. The VC said that the world owed much of its progress to widespread literacy and education. He said that Pakistan was lagging behind the world in literacy. Khan said that awareness about the importance of education should be raised.

He praised the efforts of the government in the education sector. Khan said that schemes such as the Danish School System, the distribution of laptops and the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund would help usher in an era of progress. The VC said that every effort was being made to complement quality education with modern facilities. He said that a day care centre, lecture theatres and a women complex had been added to the campus. He said that common research laboratories would also be established at the university. Khan said the university would be able to accommodate 2,500 additional students on its principal campus in three years. He said that university-industry linkages were being strengthened. The VC said that the administration was examining a proposal to construct an underpass on Rajewala Road for the convenience of the students and the teachers.
