Combating corruption: HEC, NAB join hands to raise awareness

ISLAMABAD:

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have vowed to curb corruption in the country and spread awareness about it at university campuses.

A NAB delegation recently met HEC Chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmed to discuss mutual cooperation on curbing corruption through creating awareness among university students. The NAB delegation was headed by Awareness and Prevention Director General Mansoor Akbar Kundi. The HEC executive director was also present.

Dr Ahmad welcomed the idea of joining hands with NAB to create awareness among university students. “The HEC is already preparing a course on ethics and civic responsibilities for undergraduate students,” said Ahmed.

The HEC chairperson further added that they would organise seminars, conferences, walks and other social activities with a focus on anti-corruption theme and NAB could join these activities through video-link and other facilities of the commission.

Dr Ahmed voluntarily offered the HEC as a case study for NAB to identify systematic weaknesses prevailing in the institution. NAB appreciated the interest shown by the HEC chairperson.

An HEC team headed by Academics Director General Fida Hussain visited NAB Headquarters. During the meeting, progress on the points agreed was discussed and it was agreed that a mechanism for their implementation would be developed.
