Intimidation: Police’s comments sought on plea against Imran, Qureshi

Additional district and sessions judge (AD&SJ) on Tuesday directed Anarkali police to submit comments by July 14.

LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge (AD&SJ) on Tuesday directed Anarkali police to submit comments by July 14 on a petition seeking registration of a case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and another leader of the party, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, for allegedly inciting people against the judicial commission established to probe clashes between Tahirul Qadri’s supporters and the police in Model Town last month.

In the June 17 clash at Qadri’s Minhajul Quran Secretariat, as many as 14 people were killed and around 90 people were injured.

The additional district and sessions judge had earlier ordered the Anarkali station house officer (SHO) to submit his reply but the police officer did not appear in court on Tuesday.

The petitioner, Advocate Kashif Mehmood Salmani, requested the court to direct the SHO to register a case against Khan and Qureshi under Sections 120/B, 124A (sedition), 500 (causing defamation), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
