Tribal links: Prominent Malik believed to be kidnapped
Jina Khor tribesman taken from outside the political agent’s office.
PESHAWAR:
An influential Malik of Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar named Hazarat Gul is believed to have been kidnapped from Shami Road.
Gul is the cousin of Malik Dawa Khan of Jina Kor who was killed by militants when he refused to pay them extortion and instead formed a tribal lashkar to fight them.
“He was taken away from the Shami Road area… right outside the office of the political agent of FR Peshawar in vehicles with tinted windows,” said a resident of FR Peshawar after the incident on Monday. It was not clear if it was a kidnapping case or if Gul was picked up by the law-enforcement authorities.
Gul is a resident of Sama Badhaber and hails from the Jina Kor clan of the area.
In another similar case, the general manager of Omar Glass Factory, Muhammad Sabi, was kidnapped and taken with his car while on his way home 4pm Monday. Police said he disappeared in Hayatabad and an FIR has been registered by his relatives against unidentified kidnappers. He is a Mansehra resident.
In another case, a man identified as Sadeeq Akbar was kidnapped at gunpoint by militants from Sheikhan village in broad daylight. Residents said that Akbar had recently returned from Saudi Arabia where all his brothers were working. The man was kidnapped at gunpoint and police were nowhere to be seen, they said. “It has almost become a routine matter. They come, take away our people, on one pretext or another.”
House rent law
Fifty men were arrested by the Faqirabad police in a crackdown against those who were violating the rules and regulation of the rented houses law. Police went into Faqirabad, Eidgah Colony, Ijazabad, Saeedabad, Din Bahar Colony and adjacent localities where 50 house owners were arrested and FIRs were registered against them.
