Indiscriminate shooting: Man killed for resisting robbery

His relatives staged a demonstration against the police.

FAISALABAD:
A man was killed by robbers after his family members tried to resist a robbery on Friday night.

The man’s relatives staged a demonstration against the police and protested against the “recent spike in crimes in the area”.

The protesters blocked Jaranwala-Satiana Road for traffic for hours, inconveniencing commuters, and placed the deceased’s body on the road.

The protesters placed parking trailers to block the road and burnt tyres.

They chanted slogans against Saddar police and demanded that they take swift action against the robbers who had killed their son.

Sagheer Asghar, one of the protesters, told media persons that some armed men forced entry into Ghulam Mustafa’s house in Chak 115-GB on Friday night and robbed valuables at gunpoint. Some of the family members resisted the robbery but the robbers shot at them. Mustafa received serious bullet wounds and died on the spot. The robbers managed to flee with the loot.

Noor Amin, another protester, said that they were protesting against the increase in crimes in the area. He said they did not feel secure and criminals roamed the area with impunity. Amin said they had complained to the police several times but the force had not taken appropriate steps in this regard.

On receipt of information, a police contingent rushed to the scene and placated the protesters.

They assured them that the robbers would be arrested shortly.

The protesters then dispersed. Police took the body for post-mortem examination.
