Over 340 Ramazan Bazaars have been established across the province.

LAHORE:

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the government was relentlessly pursuing an agenda committed to public service. He said several measures to ensure public welfare had been taken over the past year.

Sharif was speaking to lawmakers and party workers at Raiwind.

The chief minister said that the government had announced a “revolutionary Ramazan Package” to provide succour to the public. “The government has given a subsidy worth Rs5 billion to ensure that flour is available to the public at discounted rates throughout the holy month,” he said.

Sharif said that price control committees were working tirelessly to keep the public away from the clutches of black marketers and hoarders. He said that due to the efforts of the government, Ramazan Bazaars were flush with reasonably priced commodities and quality eatables. Sharif said the fact that the public was thronging the Ramazan Bazaars was reflective of people’s confidence in the government’s Ramazan Package.

“Adequate supply mechanisms set in place have ensured that basic necessities, fruits and vegetables are plentiful in Ramazan Bazaars for the convenience of consumers,” he said. The chief minister said that the government had fashioned a comprehensive mechanism to ensure continuous supply of subsidised eatables to Ramazan Bazaars. Sharif said ministers, lawmakers and district officials had been directed to personally inspect quality standards at Ramazan Bazaars regularly.

The chief minister said that the government had established over 340 Ramazan Bazaars across the province for the benefit of the public. He said the government would not tolerate overpricing or hoarding at any cost. Sharif said that he was personally supervising the Ramazan Package and the facilities being provided to consumers in Ramazan Bazaars. He said that quality standards and prices would be rigorously maintained at Ramazan Bazaars.

“The government will not allow anyone to sell items at artificially inflated rates during the holy month,” the chief minister said. He said agricultural fair price shops were providing consumers with fruits and vegetables at concessionary rates. He directed the lawmakers to inspect Ramazan Bazaars regularly to inspect quality standards. The chief minister said that complaints would be addressed on an urgent basis and action would be taken against those held responsible.
