South Africa look for redemption
Five-match one-day series against Sri Lanka gets under way today.
South Africa aim to improve their dismal record in Sri Lanka as they face the hosts in their first ODI in Colombo today.
South Africa coach Russel Domingo feels that a series win against the Lankans will augur well for the World Cup next year.
“If you can win a series in Sri Lanka, that puts you mentally in a good position going into a tournament like the World Cup,” said Domingo.
“There’s every chance you could end up playing Sri Lanka in a competition like the World Cup in a big quarter-final.”
On the other hand, Sri Lanka Captain Angelo Mathews hopes that the team will continue their run against the Proteas.
“You can’t be complacent because they play their best cricket wherever they play, and they have got all their guns back,” said Mathews. “So we expect a really good challenge from the South Africans.”
