Bar to justice: Lawyers beat up father, son on court premises
The two had come to court to attend bail hearing in a case lodged by lawyers.
LAHORE:
A group of lawyers severely beat up an aged man and his son on the premises of the district and sessions court when they came out of a courtroom after attending the proceeding of their pre-arrest bail applications.
The six lawyers, led by Advocate Mansoor Bhatti, started beating Akhtar Hussain and his son Naveed Akhtar when they came out of the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shaukat Kamal Dar. Hussain received injuries to his neck and under his right eye.
Litigants and other lawyers tried to intervene but the lawyers continued to kick and punch the father and son. Advocate Bhatti had registered a case against the two under Section 324 (attempt to murder) of the Pakistan penal Code (PPC) with Factory Area police. The two accused were in the court on Friday to attend proceedings of their pre-arrest bail pleas. Advocate Bhatti said the two men had used abusive language against him when they reached the court and there had been a minor scuffle. However, he claimed that they had neither started the fight nor beat up Hussain and his son.
Hussain said they had not even spoken to the lawyers. “When we came out of the courtroom the lawyers grabbed us and started to punch and kick us.” He said Bhatti had implicated them in a false case solely for lodging a case against Mashhood Bhatti who had shot and injured Adeel, another son of Hussain. Mashhood is a brother of Advocate Bhatti. He said the lawyers had been demanding withdrawal of that case. Upon his refusal, the lawyers had implicated them in a false case, Hussain claimed.
