Nephew kills uncle over land dispute

Bilal developed differences with his uncle over the division of the family’s land after his father's death.

FAISALABAD:

A man shot and killed his uncle over a property dispute in Gojra police precincts on Thursday. Police later arrested the accused.

Police said Riaz Ahmad, a resident of village 313-JB Ropowali, had an old property dispute with his nephew, Muhammad Bilal.

On Thursday, the Gojra tehsildar had summoned Ahmad and Bilal to his office, where the latter opened fire on Ahmad, police said.

Raees Anwar, a cousin of the victim, told journalists that Bilal had developed differences with his uncle over the division of the family’s land after the death of his father.

“Ahmad had filed a petition in the court of the tehsildar for the division of the land. The tehsildar had summoned both Bilal and Ahmad to appear before him for inquiry,” he said.

Anwar said Bilal started shouting at Ahmad when he saw him at the tehsildar’s office. “He started abusing Ahmad in front of the tehsildar. When Ahmad reprimanded him, he pulled out a gun and shot Ahmad, killing him instantly,” he said.

Anwar said a large number of people were present in the court at the time of the shooting. “However, none of them tried to stop Bilal when he fled after murdering Ahmad,” Anwar said.

A contingent of Gojra City police reached the area and took the body into custody. It was shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. The Gojra City police SHO said police raided Bilal’s house immediately after the incident and took him into custody.

“The accused will be presented in court today (Friday) for obtaining his physical remand. We are waiting for the post-mortem report now,” the SHO said.
